Green It, Like You Mean It!

  • Join Baltimore Book Festival’s Green efforts by participating in a green activity at the festival.  Green activities include (but not limited to): recycling, riding a bike, taking public transportation, etc.

Recycling/Trash

  • Yellow festival recycling bins and regular trash cans will be dispersed throughout the festival site and around each food area.
  • Festival-goers, exhibitors, staff and crew are encouraged to recycle whenever possible.

Food Vendors & Exhibitors

  • Baltimore Book Festival’s food vendors and beverage service is advised to use recyclable and compostable service ware.
  • Healthy menu items, such as salads and wraps, will be available to festival-goers as alternatives to traditional festival fare.
  • All exhibitors are encouraged to offer recyclable bags for guest merchandise and limit waste whenever possible.

Bike Parking Zone

  • Bike Parking is back for 2011, giving bike riders a secure place to leave their bikes while exploring the festival.  The Bike Parking Zone can accommodate 50+ bikes at a time.
  • Location: Charles Street (north of center – on the west side).

Festival Communication & Program

  • Stay green by visiting www.BaltimoreBookFestival.com for all festival information and schedules.  Click on the Plan Your Visit tab.
  • Please email, Jessie Oehler, the green coordinator with your comments and suggestions.

Other Initiatives

  • Baltimore Book Festival reuses signage, décor and props whenever possible.
  • The use of public transportation is promoted as the best way to get to the festival.
  • The festival is paperless whenever possible, i.e. emailing artists’ guidelines, confirmations, etc.
  • The City’s Office of Recycling will have a presence at the festival to promote to all festival-goers.
  • Artscape works closely with festival neighbors to ensure a proper clean-up post festival.
  • Staff and volunteers will be refilling their reusable water bottles from water jugs located behind the scenes, reducing the number of plastic water bottles.
